Habit: Annual, rosetted; hairs dense, spreading, generally nonglandular in inflorescence. 

Stem: decumbent and branched or erect and simple, < 60 cm. 

Leaf: 10--120 mm; cauline generally narrowly lanceolate, minutely dentate, +- sessile. 

Flower: hypanthium 1.2--2 mm; sepals 1--2.5 mm; petals 1.5--4.5 mm, basal spots 1--2. 

Fruit: 13--25 mm, 1.1--1.8 mm wide, cylindric, drying +- 4-angled, straight to 1-coiled. Seed: 0.7--1.1 mm. 

Ecology: Canyons, coastal dunes, beaches, sandy fields, washes; 

Elevation: < 300(800) m. 

Bioregional Distribution: w edge GV, CW, SW. 

Flowering Time: Mar--May
