Perennial, rhizomed, glabrous

Stem generally decumbent, rooting at lower nodes, branched, 5–60(100) cm

Leaf 5–50 mm, lanceolate to ovate, ± serrate, acute to obtuse, petioled

Inflorescence axillary; flowers 10–25; bracts linear; pedicels 5–10(13) mm

Flower: sepals ± 3 mm, oblanceolate, acute; corolla 7–10 mm, violet-blue, dark-lined; style 1.5–3(4)mm

Fruit 3–4 mm, ± round, entire to barely notched

Seed 0.5 mm, flat

Ecology: Common. Moist to wet soil, springs, slow streams, meadows, lakeshores

Elevation: < 3300 m.  

Bioregional distribution: California Floristic Province, East of Sierra Nevada, Desert Mountains (uncommon) 

Flowering time: May–Aug
