NATIVE

Habit: Plant generally erect, open, < 4 m. 

Stem: ascending to erect; twigs flexible, not thorn-like, green to +- gray-green. 

Leaf: alternate, +- semi-deciduous; stipules scale-like; petiole 2--7 mm; blade 11--35 mm, 9--15 mm wide, elliptic to oblong-ovate, flat, +- thick, adaxially shiny green, glabrous, abaxially paler, glabrous except +- hairy on midrib, 1- or +- 3-ribbed from base, margin entire. 

Inflorescence: panicle-like, 4--12 cm. 

Flower: white. 

Fruit: 6--9 mm wide, sticky, 3-ridged or bulged distally; horns 0. 

Ecology: Rocky slopes, ridges, chaparral, conifer forest; 

Elevation: 100--1985 m. 

Bioregional Distribution: n&c SNF, s SCoR, TR, PR; 

Distribution Outside California: northern Baja California.
