Leaves basal, generally 10–20 mm; margins generally flat

Inflorescence slender, glabrous; involucres generally 1–3 per node

Flower: perianth 2.5–3.5 mm, white, glabrous

Ecology: Open places

Elevation: 1000–3200 m.  

Bioregional distribution: Sierra Nevada, w East of Sierra Nevada 

Distribution outside California: w Nevada

Flowering time: Jul–Aug

Intergrades with var. nudum.
