Habit: Plant < 1.5 m. 

Stem: arched; nodal spines 1(3); internodes puberulent. 

Leaf: blade 1--2 cm, generally glandular-hairy. 

Inflorescence: 2--3-flowered. 

Flower: hypanthium < 3 mm, longer than wide; sepals reflexed, 3 mm, yellow; petals 1 mm, cream; styles fused +- to tip. 

Fruit: 7--8 mm, black, +- glabrous. 

Ecology: Rocky slopes, oak-covered foothills, chaparral; 

Elevation: 40--1970 m. 

Bioregional Distribution:c&s SNF, Teh, SnFrB, SCoR, WTR, PR, w edge D; 

Distribution Outside California: Arizona, northern Baja California.
