Treatment from The Jepson Manual (1993):

Plant hairy below; hairs white, sharply bent

Stem: branches generally several from base, 10–40 cm, gland-dotted above

Leaves: basal in rosette, grayish, 1–2-pinnate, axis linear, lobes toothed on both sides, teeth short-pointed; upper cauline minute, entire or 2-toothed

Inflorescence loose; flowers 4–8 per stem; pedicels spreading, in unequal pairs, glabrous or gland-dotted

Flower: calyx hairy or glandular, glands black, stalked; corolla funnel-shaped, tube included or slightly exserted, throat yellow with purple spots, lobes pink or white; stamens, style slightly exerted

Fruit 5–7 mm, widely ovoid

Seeds 3–6 per chamber

Ecology: Common. Sandy desert flats, washes

Elevation: < 1700 m.  

Bioregional distribution: White and Inyo Mountains, Desert 

Distribution outside California: to Utah, Arizona, Baja California

Flowering time:
