Subshrub, tomentose

Leaf: blade 1–3 cm, ovate, finely toothed

Flower: peduncle < 1 cm; sepals fused only at base; petals 1–2.5 cm, white to lavender, base generally purple

Fruit < calyx

Seed reniform, densely silky

Ecology: Desert scrub of mesas, canyons

Bioregional distribution: Sonoran Desert 

Distribution outside California: to w Texas, n Mexico

Flowering time: Feb–May
