[Group 4] Annual or perennial herb 10–150 cm

Leaves basal; blade 5–50 mm, oblong to reniform, ± coarsely short-hairy

Inflorescence cyme-like, glabrous, glaucous; main axes generally wider below nodes; bracts scale-like; involucres on erect or spreading, thread-like stalks, 1–1.5 mm, teeth 5

Flower: perianth 1–3 mm, yellow, coarsely white-hairy, lobes narrowly ovate

Fruit 2–2.5 mm, glabrous

Ecology: Dry sand or gravel

Elevation: -15–2000 m.  

Bioregional distribution: Great Basin Floristic Province, Desert 

Distribution outside California: to Colorado, New Mexico, nw Mexico
