From Wildflowers of Britain and Northern Europe by Andrew Cleave & Paul Sterry:

Upright, hairy perennial with conspicuous bright pink flowers. Petals area notched and separate male and female flowers are found on different plants, the male flowers being slightly smaller. The oval, pointed leaves clasp the stem, but the lower ones have short stalks. Widespread and common, sometimes dominating lanes and hedgerows in sheltered western areas.

Flowering period: March-October
