Annual 7–30 cm

Stem decumbent to erect, branched at base, puberulent, generally glandular above

Leaves 15–50 mm, ± basal; blade > petiole, oblong to oblanceolate, deeply lobed to compound, segments generally rounded

Flower: pedicel 1–3 mm; calyx lobes 3–5 mm, 4–6 mm in fruit, subequal, linear to oblanceolate, short-hairy; corolla 7–15(20) mm, funnel- to bell-shaped, tube and lower throat yellow, upper limb blue to violet, deciduous, scales linear; stamens 3–8 mm, glabrous; style 3–5 mm, short-hairy

Fruit 4–6 mm, ovoid, puberulent below, short-stiff-hairy above

Seeds 10–18, 1–1.5 mm; cross-furrows 6–9

Ecology: Sandy or gravelly soils, scrub, grassland

Elevation: < 2300 m.  

Bioregional distribution: s Sierra Nevada, San Joaquin Valley, e San Francisco Bay Area, Inner South Coast Ranges, Transverse Ranges, East of Sierra Nevada, Mojave Desert
