Leaf: distal dentate. 

Flower: bud tip obtuse to acute; sepal free tips 0--1 mm; petals 15--43 mm. 

Fruit: base 2--3 mm wide. 

Ecology: Sandy soils, including dunes; 

Elevation: generally < 1100 m. 

Bioregional Distribution: D; 

Distribution Outside California: southern Nevada, western Arizona, northwestern Mexico.
