Inflorescence: axis 20–30 cm; pedicels 1–4 cm

Flower: perianth violet-red-purple, tube 6–8 mm, narrowly cylindric (transparent, splitting in fruit), lobes widely spreading, 10–14 mm; staminodes ± inconspicuous, 2–4 mm, tapered, reflexed against perianth; filaments 0.5–1 mm, triangular-winged, anthers 3–5 mm, with a wide notch between pollen chambers; ovary 4–5 mm, style 6–7 mm

Ecology: Grassland, vernal pools

Elevation: 60–300 m.  

Bioregional distribution: s South Coast (w San Diego Co.), w Peninsular Ranges (Riverside, San Diego cos.).Threatened by development, vehicles

Horticultural information: In cultivation.
