Habit: Caudex generally ovoid (rarely spheric), unbranched. 

Leaf: generally 1.

Inflorescence: flowers generally < 4; peduncle 3--28 cm, brown. 

Flower: hypanthium 2.5--4 mm, >> calyx lobes, generally truncate at base; calyx lobes 0.8--2 mm, +- green; petals generally 3.5--6 mm, veins tan or +- purple. 

Fruit: green or tan, brown-striped. 

Seed: dark brown. 

Ecology: Shrubby, rocky to clay slopes; 

Elevation: < 1200 m. 

Bioregional Distribution: s SCo (Orange, Riverside, San Diego cos.), PR; 

Distribution Outside California: Baja California.
