Perennial, very hairy (sometimes becoming less so)

Stem erect

Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3–4, persistent; petiole 0 to short; blade lanceolate, elliptic, or ovate, base tapered or obtuse, rarely cordite

Flower: corolla reflexed to ascending, cream, sometimes tinged pink; hoods slightly elevated above corolla base, < to ± = anther head, cream, sometimes tinged purple; horns exserted, ± = hoods

Ecology: Dry, barren areas

Elevation: 200–1900 m.  

Bioregional distribution: California 

Distribution outside California: Nevada, n Baja California

Flowering time: Jun–Aug
