A conspicuous perennial with frothy, dense spikes of small pink flowers held upright above plant on slender flower stalks. The long, triangular leaves are almost hairless. 

Flowering period: June-August

Habitat: Damp places, especially low lying meadows, banks of ponds and rivers, and woodland rides. Widespread and locally common.
