Annual, erect, 5–30 cm, glabrous, bright green to yellow-green, sometimes glaucous

Leaf: segments > 1.5 mm, not widened to tip, acute

Flower: bud nodding, long-pointed, glabrous, sometimes glaucous; receptacle obconic; petals 8–30 mm, yellow

Fruit 5–7 cm

Seed 1–1.4 mm wide, generally round, net-ridged, tan to brown

Ecology: Desert slopes, hillsides

Elevation: 0–1200 m.  

Bioregional distribution: s Mojave Desert, Sonoran Desert 

Distribution outside California: nw Mexico

Flowering time: Mar–Apr
