Stem 6–12 dm, stout, ± fleshy, smooth

Leaves basal and cauline, < 6 dm, fleshy; blade lanceolate to oblong, base tapered, tip acuminate, margin curled

Inflorescence dense

Flower: inner perianth lobe 8–15 mm, round-cordate, ± pink, teeth 0, tubercles 0

Fruit 4–7 mm

Ecology: Dry sandy places

Elevation: 0–2000 m.  

Bioregional distribution: Southwestern California, Mojave Desert 

Distribution outside California: to Wyoming, Texas, Baja California

Flowering time: Jan–May
