LOCATION: Roadside meadow at Mill Creek, about 5 miles up County Rd. 64 (Jess Valley Rd.) from town of Likely, Modoc County, CA

Treatment from The Jepson Manual (1993):

Annual, biennial 3–10 dm

Leaves 2–5 dm

Inflorescence: peduncle much wider toward tip; phyllaries 8–13, 2.5–4 cm in flower heads, flowers, 4–7 cm in fruit heads

Flowers: ligules pale lemon-yellow

Fruit 25–35 mm; pappus ± white

Ecology: Uncommon. Weed in waste places

Elevation: 0–2700 m.  

Bioregional distribution: n Sierra Nevada, San Joaquin Valley, San Francisco Bay Area, Outer South Coast Ranges, San Bernardino Mountains, Great Basin Floristic Province 

Distribution outside California: native to Europe

Flowering time: May–Jul
