Habit: Plant 5--15 dm, very leafy, puberulent. 

Leaf: 5--20(30) mm, thread-like; axillary leaves 2--10 per node. 

Inflorescence: involucre 6--7 mm; outer and mid phyllaries strongly thickened near tip; midveins often not evident on proximal 1/2 of each phyllary. 

Flower: 6--12(14); ray flower 1--6. 

Ecology: Coastal scrub, disturbed chaparral; 

Elevation: < 800 m. 

Bioregional Distribution:  n SCo, ChI, WTR, w DSon. 

Flowering Time: Aug--Dec
